Word Vomit

Today has been a fabulous day! We had our follow up appointment at the cardiologist. Needless to say she said she still looked good!

But how could she not? This was her face at 6 AM! I must say I have THE happiest baby in the world! I jokingly say that God gave her that temperament, along with sleeping all night,  to make it easier on us  from all the medical issues.

Elizabeth is now deciding that she needs to be rocked and pull my hair till she falls asleep. Oh yeah, I also have to read to her. Trust me this mommy isn't complaining!

On a completely different subject, I read several blogs by DS moms. I enjoy most of them. This specific blog I have thoroughly enjoyed. That was until I read a blog today.

I do not typically speak politics or get into moral debates. I feel an urge to share my opinion on this specific topic.

"Turning off Down Syndrome"

Some of you have probably read the news article about how science has now discovered how to "turn off" DS. Some of you probably haven't read it or don't care to.

In my opinion my daughter was BORN this way. God chose her to be magical! I understand that from several people's point of view  they feel its the same as heart surgery or BP meds . In my point of view it is completely different. Your not picking a life altering surgery your choosing to change your child's DNA. Literally!!!! I know it's not seen that way but its not like taking a reflux pill everyday! The things we endour in life determine how our character will be ! If I turn it off then I'm turning off Elizabeth. I know some people say that DS doesn't make them who they are and to an extent it doesn't. It is those life lessons they take from their difficulties that help shape them.

One of Elizabeth's resident in the PICU had CP and had a "live" cane (aka Gunner his lab) . He has written a book of his life and one of his first statements to me was "I would be nothing without CP it has helped shape me."

What I am getting at is even healthy kids have health issues. You can't avoid them! All in all it's in Gods hands. So "turning it off" will not guarantee you child will not have cancer, respiratory issues, or even cognitive delays.

I am sorry if I offended anyone but I in no way support the idea of "turning off" their magical abilities!

But what do I know I'm just a mom of a very magical princess!
